Ballabourneen Vineyards are located in two main areas in the Lower Hunter, Lovedale and Pokolbin. Varieties such as Semillon, Chardonnay and Verdelho are sourced from Lovedale, particularly the Majors Lane vineyard, a uniquely different vineyard due to the three very different soil types that are found. This diverse cross section of soils results in Ballabourneen producing wine of individual charm and character.
The Semillon for this wine was grown on the established Majors Lane vineyard in Lovedale, known for consistently producing fine and elegant wines, true to its regional style. The soil structure has a sandy topsoil with a clay underlay and the wines have and average age of 30 years.
Hard harvested in the early morning, with a small amount of sulphur added during picking. Crushed and pressed into a tank, settling for two days prior to fermentation. The must underwent a 10 day ferment, relatively warm to help release fruit aromas and the wine was bottled within three months of ferment.
Aromas of fresh kaffir lime and citrus flowers feature on the nose. The palate of the wine has tight acidity with good length and with a touch of fruit sweetness on the finish.
