Krinklewood is breaking ground with its 100 per cent biodynamic, sustainable farm yielding a certified biodynamic product that is waking up the palates of hardened sommeliers. A boutique, family-owned biodynamic vineyard, Krinklewood produces 100% estate-grown wines reflecting the terroir of the Broke Fordwich subregion of the Hunter Valley. The cellar door is set among Provencal-style gardens that overlook the vineyard, with the Wollombi Brook and Brokenback range providing a spectacular backdrop. In 2010 the winery was extended and upgraded, including the installation of a Vaslin Bucher basket press.
In line with previous vintages of Chardonnay, this fruit was picked at optimum ripeness in the cool of the night. Of the free-run juice, a portion was fermented in French Troncais barriques. The wine was left on lees for 10 months with regular stirring, before final blending and bottling.
The wine is pale straw in colour with a slight green hue. It has a lifted nose of citrus and hazelnut. Citrus and classic nectarine carry onto the palate with terrific fruit intensity balanced by natural acidity and length. Beautiful lifted hazelnut notes are delivered by 10 months in puncheons and barriques; this is a delicate finely structured Chardonnay.
