Albariño comes from Rías Baixas in the Galicia region of north west Spain. Andrew Margan was the first to plant it here in the Hunter Valley in 2014. Galicia is classified as a warm maritime climate and it produces textural wines with low alcohol, high fruit and high acid, just like the Hunter Valley. Margan Albarino, being the first Albarino from the Hunter it is hard to know how long this wine may cellar but its balance and structure suggests it will cellar well for many years.

VintageThe 2017 vintage had perfect ripening conditions with gradually increasing temperatures and long daylight hours resulting in beautifully ripe and healthy fruit which allowed harvest in late February.

LocationSingle vineyard wine from the ancient red volcanic soil of the Fordwich Sill. Broke Fordwich, Hunter Valley.

Tropical fruit and spice, succulent acidity with a lingering finish and lifted citrus characteristics.

Best DrinkingEnjoy now as an aperitif. It will develop beautifully over the next 3 to 6 years and live a bit more after that.

After minimal skin-contact we fermented the juice in stainless steel tanks using a small amount of solids and a variety-specific yeast. Extended lees contact post fermentation resulted in a textural complex wine.  Alcohol 11.5%
