A new generation of winemaking families are establishing quality benchmarks for the production of Hunter Valley wine. Established in 1997, the Margan brand is part of this new wave. Hunter born and proud of their regional identity, the wines of Andrew Margan reflect the unique terroir of the Hunter and the winemaking background of their maker.
Margan Hunter Valley Wines has over 320 acres of its own vineyards and a state of the art winery, all located in the beautiful sub-region of Broke Fordwich in the Lower Hunter Valley.
The 2012 Verdelho is pale straw in colour displaying an aromatic fruit salad bouquet of pineapple, melon, mandarin and stone fruit with hints of spice and plenty of underlying citrus. The palate is balanced beautifully between lively citrus fruits and the riper broader tropical notes. The clean, bright acidity ensures a long crisp finish. Enjoy this wine young and fresh.
Picked from the vines yielding less than two tonnes to the acre grown on the red basalt soil of Broke Fordwich from some of the oldest Verdelho vines planted in Australia. The grapes for this wine were picked in two batches from the same vineyard. The first batch was picked slightly less ripe displaying citrus and green apple characters, and the second batch with riper tropical fruits. The wine was handled without any oxidation and fermented using aromatic yeast. The wine had minimal lees contact and no oak handling. It was bottled early to seal in the fresh fruit character of the wine.
Margan Verdelho is a benchmark for Hunter Valley Verdelho and was honoured as the third best Australian Verdelho at the AGT Wine Magazines Top 20 Verdelhos.
