This season’s Shakespeare in the Vines, presented by Essential Theatre is the bloody thriller Macbeth, set amongst the picturesque Calais Estate Vineyard in the Hunter Valley on Saturday 21 February 2015.
Brave, strong and partriotic Macbeth happens upon three withches who predict he will soon be King. Macbeth’s bloody rise to power is encouraged by his greed fueled wife. A story of ambition, betrayal and deception. Be ready for a bold night of theatre under the stars.
This is the 13th season for Essential Theatre’s National Vineyard tour and the cast includes: Martin Blum, Amanda LaBonte, Michael Wahr, Karlis Zaid, Sophie Lampel, Olivia Monticciolo, Tim Page and Mia Landgren.

About the Company
Essential Theatre is run by Artistic Directors Amanda LaBonte and Sophie Lampel and was founded in 1997. Since 2003 we have been recognised as a leading national touring theatre company known for its professional and creative presentation of Shakespeare in the Vines, a unique tour of Shakespeare’s much loved works to some of Australia’s spectacular wineries and gardens.
The initial aim of the Compnay was to produce theatre that would entertain, inspire and provoke audiences to think in a fresh way about their own lives. In the early stages we were awarded and recognised as a prominent young theatre company producing new works including the self penned play Triple Acorn which saw them invited to attend the Shorelines Writer’s Festival in 1999 as guest performers.
As with many independent theatre makers their focus changed and Amanda and Sophie decided to travel overseas in their mid twenties and embark on their own personal adventures across the globe. Upon their return, there was still the hunger to continue Essential Theatre but sure this time they would create and develop something with continuing strength and longevity. As artists, Amanda and Sophie learned to look at Essential Theatre from a business perspective – this is when Shakespeare in the Vines was born.
