Being the home property of the Davis family, Dr John Davis has spent substantial time surveying the geological features of this vineyard which make it so ideal for viticulture and have greatly assisted in site selection. To showcase this extended research, there is a display at Cellar Door featuring geological specimins from the vineyard along with an in-depth information board conveying the main points of the research.
Our Mt View vineyard produces wines which are the true essence of the Hunter Valley. The vines flourish in soils of terra rossa clay loams over limestone, red duplex loams over marly shale and sandstones throughout the hills & alluvial brown loams. – Tallavera Grove
The cellar door at Tallavera Grove allows for one of the most spectacular views of all Australian wine areas, with the breathtaking aspect of the rolling hills of the vineyard itself and is currently the only outlet for the full range of wines from Tallavera Groves three vineyards.
Released in June 2013, the 2012 Shiraz is deep purple-red in colour with the nose displaying the regional savoury earthy characters on ripe plum and dark fruits. Those characters follow throught the supple palate rounded out by fine tannins and a long elegant finish. The 2012 vintage brought many challenges for reds through the Hunter but with intensive berry selection at harvest Tallavera Grove were able to make a Shiraz which met with their lofty quality requirements.
