Wynwood Estate is one of the Hunter Valley’s newest wine labels. The vineyard has many old vines, and with local vineyard knowledge, they are prepared and nurtured to produce the excellence in the fruit, while the winemaker, Peter Lane, hand selects the grapes to create the elegance of fine Hunter Valley wine.

The Wynwood Estate wine range is comprehensive, there is something to suit an array of wine consumers. In particular, the Grey Gum range of wines can be enjoyed on their own or with a range of different food styles. There are light, zesty, fruity and sparkling styles which are all fresh and easy to drink.
2011 was an outstanding vintage in the Hunter and was every grape farmers dream – good yields of ripe fruit in pristine condition. The growing season saw above average rainfall which provided for good canopy growth and a fruitful flower set. January and February were hot and dry enabling the grapes to be harvested in prime condition with great sugar and flavour levels.
The grapes for the 2011 Wynwood Estate Durif were picked in the evening on Monday 7th February. They were then crushed, destemmed, must chilled and fermented on skins for 6 days, pressed off and matured in old French oak for 10 months. The wine was then blended and filtered prior to bottling in December 2011.
The wine is very deep red in colour with purple hues. Spice, licorice, fruitcake and glazed cherry aromas lift this full bodied wine with spice and fruitcake flavours. The palate is concentrated and dense, with evident dusty tannins culminating in a strong finish. Enjoy with lamb, beef and steak.
The cellar door and surrounds creates a lovely ambience in which to taste the wines and enjoy one of the valley’s best views. Wynwood Estate is a must visit on your next wine tasting tour of the Hunter Valley.
